The proposed legislation – what we are trying to do
We have taken a look at the last bill presented to Parliament, Bill C-232, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (cruelty to animals) , by Peggy Nash in 2011. This bill has sat in parliament since 2011 and we don’t think that it is fit for purpose. The bill does not go far enough and is not in tune with what the public wants: strong Animal Cruelty Laws and stiffer penalties for offenders.
As a result we have produced an alternate bill, Terry’s Law, this will hopefully address most of the concerns that animal lovers throughout the country have. We have produced this with the help of many Animal rights campaigners across the country. The document below will be presented to the NDP MP Jean Crowder for review and consideration on January the 21st at 10.00am.
